50 + Years
The Henrietta Senior Center in Rochester NY, sereves as a place of community. Many of the couples who attend have been together for over fifty years.
“We met at a dance for singles in Rochester 60 years ago. I remember she was wearing a green dress, and someone or something had made her upset, so I walked over and asked her to dance. I wanted to take her out but couldn’t do so until two weeks later due to work,” Harris said. “I thought it was just a way for him to get out of ever seeing me again. Instead, we were married that August,” said Pattie.
“We met in the last year of High School. My friend had a date with one of Lucile’s nurse friends, and I came along as a blind date. We went on the swing ride, and halfway through, she reached out her hand, and I grabbed it. It was an instant connection and wanted to be together ever since. Sixty-seven years” said Bob.

“We met when we were 16 in high school. We both were in the band he played the trumpet, and I played the saxophone, I thought he was the cutest thing, and I knew he liked me because he and his friend would sit behind me during practice and through spitballs/mess with me. Our first date was a double date, which helped to break the ice, and the rest is history. We have been through a lot together, and I can’t tell you how nice it has been to have someone so supportive and caring by my side the entire time. We are fortunate,” said Barb.
Dottie and William will be married for 60 years. We were both in High School at the time, and our friendship gradually grew into something greater. “He would call me every Friday after work and ask me to come to visit him in the city, my dad wasn’t a fan of me spending so much time with him, so I would sneak out and take the train to the city by myself. William would meet me at Grand Central Station and show me around the city; it was amazing,” said Dottie.
